Hi, I’m Lisa, the Owner & Trainer of Oh Behave! I’m an Honors graduate of the San Francisco SPCA’s Academy for Dog Trainers, frequently referred to as the “Harvard” for dog trainers, and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Training dogs is my passion and dream job. My credentials include:
- Certificate in Training & Counseling with Honors, SF SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers
- Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer
- Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (No. 2092033), Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers
- Internship Certificate, Dog Behavior & Training, SF SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers
- Internship Certificate, Shelter Dog Training, SF SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers
- Professional Member, Association of Pet Dog Trainers (No. 72585)
I’m experienced at training manners and doing successful behavior modification for fear and aggression. My specialties include working with puppies, shy, nervous and fearful/anxious dogs, and dogs with separation anxiety or home alone distress.
One of the most fulfilling things I’ve done so far as a dog trainer was teaching kids how to train dogs at the East Bay SPCA throughout the inaugural year of its Teaching Love and Compassion (TLC) program. The first program of its kind in Northern California, TLC is designed to help kids learn about conflict resolution, non-violence, and respect and compassion for animals and people. The East Bay SPCA also invited me to be a guest speaker on dog body language and dog bite prevention at a series of seminars for the Oakland Housing Authority.
I’ve worked in puppy day care and as a shelter dog trainer at Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation and the SF SPCA. I’ve conducted behavioral evaluations of many shelter dog candidates, taught dog training classes to the general public and to shelter volunteers, and monitored countless dog and puppy playgroups. I’ve also put in lots of time volunteering at shelters. I have taught a variety of group dog training classes.
Committed to continuing education, I regularly attend dog behavior, training and wellness seminars and conferences, and read current literature on these topics. I guess you can say I’m a dog lover and a dog geek!
Before following my dream, I had a successful career as a lawyer. I have a J.D. from U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.
I live in San Francisco with my herding dog mix, Vinnie, who I train all the time, my cat Ted, who was my first clicker training student, and my Russian Desert tortoise, Thomas, who is completely untrained.
